Sommeliers Australia is the national body for sommeliers. While membership to Sommeliers Australia is primarily aimed at sommeliers in Australian restaurants, the association also welcomes non-sommeliers to join.
A sommelier is a specialist wine waiter or wine steward; a trained and knowledgeable wine professional who specialises in all facets of beverage service.
Their principal work is in the area of wine procurement, storage, and wine cellar rotation. They are also responsible for the development of wine lists and are responsible overall for the delivery of wine service and training for the other restaurant staff.
Sommeliers Australia has successfully conducted a series of wine courses for current members, potential members and the general public over many years.
