The champion wine of the National Cool Climate Wine Show, held in Bathurst NSW, is the Paringa Estate 2007 Estate Pinot Noir from the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. This outstanding wine also won the Champion Dry Red Table Wine and Champion Pinot Noir awards.

Victorian vineyards went on to win three more champion awards, followed by NSW and South Australia, which took out three each. Tasmanian and Western Australia vineyards won one champion trophy each.

The judging panel, led by Tim Knappstein, assessed 1025 entries from designated cool climate regions in Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and NSW.

The top NSW wine was Brangayne of Orange with their 2008 Sauvignon Blanc which won the Champion Central Ranges Wine trophy and Champion Sauvignon Blanc. Brangayne of Orange also took the top award in last year’s Show.

Goaty Hill Wines of Tasmania won the trophy for Champion Dry White Table Wine and the Champion chardonnay went to Piano Gully Wines of Western Australia; Champion Cabernet Sauvignon was won by LakeBreeze  Wines of South Australia for their 2005 False Cap entry and the top Shiraz was entered by Longview Vineyard, South Australia with its 2007 Yakka entry.

In this, the tenth anniversary year of the NCCWS, the large number of entries and the increased quality of the wine displays cool climate winegrowers enthusiasm for the NCCWS and promises a very bright future for the competition, said Chief Judge Tim Knappstein.
