Tasting Notes - Frog Rock
wines from Mudgee in NSW
Frog Rock Wines is named after a local legend - the striking landmark of frog shaped granite boulders - and was established by another local legend, the Turner family in 1997
A range of wines is now crafted from their mature, pristine vineyards, specifically selected to produce expressive, pure fruit wines that reflect the unique Mudgee soils. Frog Rock wines are made by two of Mudgee’s most awarded wine makers – David Lowe and Simon Gilbert. The philosophy used in the vineyards is to retain the primary fruit by using as little intervention as possible, including minimising irrigation and the spraying of chemicals, to allow for the true fruit characters to translate into the wine.
2009 Frog Rock Rose
Early merlot was crushed and pressed lightly to pick up just enough colour and tannin before being fermented with an aromatic yeast.
It is vibrant, cerise pink with a nose of strawberries and redcurrants. The palate is delightfully fresh and fragrant with sweet fruit and clean acidity. The perfect wine to drink now.
Alc/vol: 12.5%

2008 Frog Rock Pinot Gris
Hand-picked fruit from an ultra cool vineyard was carefuilly pressed and fermented cool to preserve aromatics and reduce phenolics. Fine lees contact before bottling added texture to the palate.
The Pinot Gris is pale with green highlights and a nose of cut pears with musk undertones. The palate is richly textured fruit with a clean and finely judged acidity. It has great length. Best as a young wine but will cellar for 2-3 years.
Alc/vol: 13.8%
