If you love wine and travel then this is all good news for you.

VisitVineyards.com is delighted to announce that we are now working with The Wine Society - Australia's longest-standing and most prestigious wine cooperative, established over 60 years ago, and still going strong today.

Nearly 60,000 Wine Society Members can now share in the exclusive benefits we offer our own Members. With over 250 special VisitVineyards.com wine and food travel experiences and offers across Australia (and some in Italy, France and even India) your Membership is about to get even more rewarding.

Plus one lucky person who joins us before 30th November 2009 will take home a bottle of Penfolds Grange 1998, and another ten a copy each of Australian Wine Vintages 2010.

Our Members and subscribers will also benefit too - read more below:

The Wine Society story:

1946 was a good vintage in France. The world was shaking off the war. In Australia, Saltram was making the first of its ‘dry reds’, Maurice O’Shea was winemaking at Mt Pleasant in the Hunter Valley, Tasmania was ten years away from growing wine grapes, and in Sydney a Dr Gilbert Phillips was getting together with some friends to buy better table wines.

Phillips was a legendary figure - neurosurgeon, sailor, sportsman, musician and lover of wine, who before the War had founded the Wine and Food Society of NSW. On his return, he founded a co-operative which we now know as The Wine Society, dedicated to finding and selling good wine at great prices.

Today:

Roll on six decades. Now The Wine Society is nearly sixty thousand strong, with members all over Australia. The Wine Society still sources wines (and other beverages) from around the world for its members at the best possible prices, but they’ve branched out to wine education – hosting wine courses, dinners and other functions at their Sydney base in Ultimo and as far afield as Western Australia – judging wine awards, promoting young winemakers, making award-winning wines, and much more.

Today, with a new look and feel, The Wine Society is spreading its wings – still owned by its members, and managed by a team of totally committed wine professionals – and is reaching out to a new, younger audience, and those interested in taking their wine experiences out into the regions. Like you!
