Shelmerdine wines are created from their own estates' grapes, grown in vineyards across the Heathcote - Goldfields district and also in the Yarra Valley wine region of Victoria.
The Shelmerdine Cellar Door and Café at the family's Merindoc property in southern Heathcote is open daily. It is home to silent sentinels of pure granite, breathtaking bushranger landscape, an established garden and precisely chosen vineyard sites. Managed by renowned chef Simon Fenwick, and staffed by passionate and knowledgeable locals, the cellar door is the ideal place to unearth the secrets of this intriguing wine region.
Warm and welcoming, the café is a tranquil haven of jarrah and western red cedar. Be guided through complimentary tastings of their Heathcote and Yarra Valley ranges in the cellar door. Pause with a regional tasting plate, espresso coffee and dessert, or linger long into the afternoon with the seasonally inspired menu. The cooler temperatures are staved off by the granite hewn open fire and delicacies from the wood fired oven. An extensive program of events runs throughout the year to showcase the fine wines and regional produce.
The Shelmerdine label was launched in 2002, but the family has a long association with the modern Victorian wine industry, first establishing vineyards in Nagambie Lakes in 1968. Shelmerdine Vineyards is committed to crafting premium wines that express the climate, landscape and character of their vineyards. They embrace the honesty the rocks, soils and rhythm of the seasons impart on their wines.
Shelmerdine's elegant and graceful cool climate varietals, including sauvignon, chardonnay and pinot noir, are grown at altitude in Lusatia Park Vineyard in the Upper Yarra Valley. Those that prefer warmer climes, including viognier, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and merlot find their true expressions in carefully chosen sites in the Merindoc and Willoughby Bridge Vineyards in Heathcote.
