Montana makes wine in all New Zealand's major wine regions. While there are unmistakable regional differences, all these regions share characteristics that are typical of the country as a whole.
Montana planted the first modern day vineyards in Marlborough and created New Zealand's first varietal wine with Montana Gisborne Chardonnay. They then made the original vintage of what was to become New Zealand's signature wine – Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
Their search for fresh possibilities continues to this day. It finds expression not only in wine, but also in the adventure inherent in travel and creative enterprise. After more than 30 years, Montana offers wine lovers a selection of more than 30 distinctive varietal wines.
In 1988 Montana began an historic partnership with The House of Deutz in Champagne, France which has resulted in the best New Zealand grapes being married with traditional French champagne-making techniques to produce the award-winning Deutz Marlborough Cuvee.
