The Writers' Market has been operated by Tasmania 40 Degrees South since early 2008. In its first year it has proved to be a great success for both the participating authors and readers alike. It has sold close to 900 books, calendars, CDs and DVDs.
It has made hard-to-get limited print run books and other media accessible to readers. Its wide distribution (through TASMANIA Forty Degrees South magazine and www.fortysouth,com.au website) and small margins mean that limited print run books can be financially viable for authors. And for the reader, books that normally would remain unknown to them are now readily available.
Forty South also assists authors in getting their works published. It has helped dozens of authors realise their dream of being published – all without them having to mortgage their house!
Forty South is proud that the Writers' Market is playing its part in supporting local authors, musicians and filmmakers and, at the same time, catering to the needs of readers.
