FIRST PRIZE (two mixed half dozens)

Pfeiffer Wines of Rutherglen is home of Jen Pfeiffer, who has just won the Sommeliers' Choice in The Wine Society's Young Winemaker of the Year 2009 Awards. This family owned and run winery is set in beautiful surroundings with century old pine trees and an historic bridge, site of the Pfeiffer Pfrolic - Annual Long Lunch. The welcoming winery with its huge oregon beams, bought to Australia as ballast in the 1800s, is home to a wide range of fine wines and the winners of these half dozens will enjoy two bottles each of their finest including the world's very first Topaque:

  • Pfeiffer 2008 Gamay: The Pfeiffer signature. An unusual variety within Australia, this Gamay is strikingly different. The nose exhibits vibrant cherry fruit aromas. The palate sings with summer berries and finishes dry and crisp. A perfect addition to any antipasto platter.
  • Pfeiffer 2008 Shiraz: A rich and robust Shiraz with pepper and spice, and ripe berry fruit. A pleasure to drink with your favourite cut of steak.
  • Pfeiffer Rutherglen Topaque: This is the world’s very first Topaque – and it is already a classic wine. With lovely honey and malt characters and a slippery palate that is sweet and unctuous, this is the perfect end to any night.

Enter now and you could be toasting the festive season with fine Rutherglen wines and ending your Christmas dinner by sipping the sweet and wonderful Pfeiffer Topaque.

SECOND PRIZE (one copy)

Who would disagree that the best tasting ingredients come from your own garden? But not knowing where to start and just what's involved will often deter some of us from taking the first step on the road to an edible garden. Win this inspiring book from Meredith Kirton - Harvest - a complete Australian guide to the edible garden and you'll soon be on the way to making your garden dream come true.

Starting with sound advice - start small - then moving to the basics of growing vegetables, herbs and fruits, Harvest covers all the aspects of making your garden produce the best you'll ever taste. Meredith warns it will take some time, hard work and commitment but enjoyment in the process and the satisfaction of the end result will be well worth it.

Win this wonderful book and you might not be harvesting in time for a Christmas feast but you'll have plenty to work on through the summer holidays!

THIRD PRIZE (three copies)

Wine Master Rob Geddes has taken on the reins of Australian Wine Vintages 2010 ('the Gold Book') from Robin Bradley, and there are some great changes, the biggest of which is the increase in number of 5 gold star wines from 16 to 94. There's also tasting notes on over 2030 wines, advice on vintage quality and regional wine styles. The book might be small in size but, as they say, worth it's weight in gold.

Enter now and you could have one of these great prizes in time for the holiday season.
