FIRST PRIZE (2 half dozen wine packs)

Kevin and Helen O’Brien of Kangarilla Road have been stamping their own mark on the McLaren Vale wine style for over a decade.  Since establishing the business in 1997, the partnership has proven to be highly successful, with Kevin the winemaker and operations manager and Helen the business manager. During this time they have built a recognised and internationally successful Australian wine brand, raised their son Charlie and established reputation as two of McLaren Vale’s most active and respected wine figures, with Kangarilla Road’s star still well and truly on the rise.

Kangarilla Road makes expected and unexpected wines with fruit sourced from their vineyards and a community of local growers. The whites are fragrant and aromatic and the reds an elegant expression of a region renowned for its generosity.  This month two VisitVineyards.com Members will be able to taste Kangarilla Road’s core range which includes shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay along with some idiosyncrasies such as primitivo, viognier and sangiovese.

The half dozen prize pack comprises:

  • 2006 Kangarilla Road Cabernet Sauvignon
  •  2007 Kangarilla Road Viognier

Australian Wine Vintages, by Robin Bradley and Rob Geddes MW, is affectionately known as "the Gold Book by its many fans (this is the 26th edition) not only for its cover colour but for the value of its contents. The guide includes information such as star ratings, vintage ratings and best year to drink and has all the wineries in alphabetical order for ease of reference.

Rob Geddes MW tells us that the "stars are about quality, pleasure and value for money" and isn't that the prioirity for most of us? So if you want a wine guide to give you just that information in a format you can carry with you, make sure you enter now!

The Coonawarra is called Australia's other red centre and few in the wine world would argue. With its rich red soil and pure underground water, little wonder it's an area renowned for producing world class red wines - especially cabernet sauvignon.

In August the Coonawarra is taking to the highways of Australia and bringing the locals and over 100 wines from 24 wineries to most capital cities with the Coonawarra Wine Tasting Roadshow. Visitors can taste the wines and meet the winemakers from some of the most famous brands along with some of the smaller producers in the region.

Members who win a double pass can elect which city they take their tickets for: Brisbane (17th), Melbourne (20th), Sydney (18th), Adelaide (24th), Perth (26th) and Canberra (19th).
