Your hosts at Bittern Cottage, Jenny and Noel Burrows, offer a seasonal set menu featuring Mornington Peninsula grown seasonal produce wherever possible.
Currently celebrating their 30th year in operation, the cuisine is influenced by the Burrows' experiences in small family restaurants in the villages of France and Italy where fresh products are brought daily at open-air markets.
“On our visits to France and Italy with our children we spend mornings in small villages attending open air markets, and later dining at family owned restaurants to enjoy traditional, regional dishes, or preparing our evening meal from produce bought earlier. Jenny records these experiences in her diaries which later become a valuable reference and inspiration for her to cook, as our own “provincial” cuisine, when we return to our restaurant”…..Jenny and Noel Burrows, Bittern Cottage, Autumn, 2009
Relax and enjoy the special food and you can BYO local wine (no corkage).
“Celebrating their (mainly local) produce is so important at Bittern Cottage…a favourite among peninsula-ites for the past 28 years” “They also describe dishes and provenance in mouth watering detail, which suits the provincial style of food”…Kath Dolan, Age Epicure, December 23, 2008
“This idiosyncratic, slightly old-world haven of provincial France won't appeal to everyone but those in favour of earthy, honest food – and the kind of service where the host greets you in the car park – will love it….. The Age Good Food Guide, 2009.
