Peninsula food businesses rewarded for effort
Sara Schwarz
The 2009 Mornington Peninsula Regional Awards for Excellence were held this year on an icily cold June evening in the warm and welcoming Peninsula Community Theatre.
Over 150 people braved the conditions, representing the best of Mornington Peninsula’s wine and food industry. Held annually, the Regional Awards hi-light the quality of service, produce, chefs and producers that Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula is blessed with.
Now in its second year, guests were waited upon by the next generation of service professionals from the local Chisholm TAFE. The exceptional food on the evening, matched by regional wines, was provided by six of last year’s well-deserved award winners:
Bamboo
Periodot Lake Estate
Red Hill Brewery
Salix Restaurant
The Long Table
The Rocks Mornington
In 2009 over 45 local businesses competed within eleven categories. The winners and finalists of each will now progress to the Victorian Awards for Excellence to be held later in the year.
