Ian Thorpe has long been known for his incredible swimming achievements. Less well-known is that Ian loves to cook. But through years of competition Ian has learnt that he can’t just eat anything and achieve the elite level success that he has become known for.

A lifetime love of cooking teamed with a refusal to give up the flavours of his favourite meals led Ian to develop a plan that allowed him to eat the delicious foods he loves and to maintain a healthy, lean, strong body. In Ian Thorpe’s first cookbook he shares the recipes that keep him trim and healthy. As well he shares his philosophy on diet gathered from experts on nutrition and diet over all of his years of elite sporting success

If you are a fan of Ian Thorpe and cooking, this is the cook book for you. There are pictures of Ian Thorpe and friends alongside food advice based on his life experience. He starts off with the basics; giving recipes showing how to create stocks, pastes and sauces among others. The book is categorised into sides, vegetarian, seafood, poultry, beef and kangaroo, lamb, pork and dessert.

Don’t expect recipes for comfort foods as this book stays true to its aim of providing healthy recipes. And there are some fantastic recipes: Pad Thai with squid noodles, Barramundi with preserved lemon, tomato and pine nuts, Tastes like chicken salad, beef with tzatziki, Japanese pork and onion dressing, vanilla pannacottas with berry coulis and mandarin cake.

Cooking from this book is guilt free, the recipes are generally easy to follow and the ingredients are largely not out of reach.

Overall, this book is best suited to people who are interested in eating healthily but with some flare. For anyone in sports training it might be a good investment in helping to gain a more diverse range of flavours in their cooking.
