A celebration of the rich culinary and festive traditions of Australia's most culturally diverse city, the inaugural SBS Food Journey Festival will satisfy all palates with an impressive showcase of SBS's hottest food talent and a feast of multicultural cuisine, music and dance.
The event will plate up on the first day of the 2011 Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, the premier event of Melbourne's culinary calendar, running from March 4th to March 6th.
Featuring an indoor and outdoor format, the event will be housed in the heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton Gardens. SBS Food Journey Festival will share the stunning space with the World's Longest Lunch, one of the highlights of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival calendar.
With more than 150 food and wine exhibitors expected, SBS Food Journey Festival will feature a Growers Market with fresh ingredients from the garden to the plate; a Bazaar, with a selection of the best herbs and spices; and travel taste stalls from local ethnic restaurants to tantalise with delicious international cuisine, as well as the best wine, beer and non alcoholic beverages. As the perfect complement, there will be five stages throughout the festival featuring cooking demonstrations and tips from Australia's top chefs, showcases of the latest cooking tools and equipment, entertainment centred on the food traditions of Australian immigrants, and internationally flavoured music and dancing.
More than 35 international winemakers will converge on Melbourne in March as part of the Dan Murphy's Wines of the World at the inaugural SBS Food Journey Festival. Leading international wines from houses like: Chapoutier, Pio Cesare, Louis Latour and Giesen will be available for tasting throughout the three day event.
Wine educator Andrew Caillard MW will be presenting master classes showing the finest wines from Europe's most famous wine regions. There will be three masterclasses each day showcasing the wines of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Italy.
