To celebrate the release of her first Pinot Grigio in years and a number of new innovative wines, Kathleen Quealy, will be hosting an informative and fun wine dinner, with the appropriate theme of the Fruits of Friuli, at Merricks General Store on Saturday 28thNovember 2009 at 7pm.
Considered one of Australia's most talented winemakers, Kathleen will present her innovative Friuli inspired wines, matched with Adriatic cuisine carefully prepared by Chef Janine Richmond.
The Friuli region at the top of the Adriatic Sea has long been the inspiration behind many of Kathleen's wines. She believes that the wine and food from this area have a lot in common with the Mornington Peninsula.
Quealy's modern range of cool white wines including her brand new Pinot Grigio, Senza Nome Friulano, Muscat and Super White POBBLEBONK, all emulate what she understands the Friuli technique and character to be all about. Kathleen's viticulture and winemaking style is about flavour created through strategic sunshine saturating the canopy and individual grapes. There is awareness about developing flavour and interest with a combination of skin contact, oxygen and patience. Kathleen says, "It is all about creative and instinctive, modern winemaking whilst being conscious of the benefits of selected traditional techniques".
The Fruits of Friuli wine dinner is the first in a series of exciting new wine dinners to be held at Merricks General Store and Kathleen can't wait to answer questions. Cost is $77 per head and includes canapes, a three course dinner accompanied by Quealy wines.
